Description

Cell phones, mobile email devices, and handheld computers provide students with the ability to send and receive messages within seconds. Dramatic scenarios will help students to appreciate the positive and negative aspects of this technology. Viewers will learn the basic do’s and don’ts of texting and the don’ts of sexting, and the possible consequences of hitting the send button without thinking.

SYNOPSIS:
Sara, Tina, and Kelly are out shopping one day. When Sara begins to text her mom, she walks into a pole and almost dies of embarrassment. When Kelly gets into a phone conversation with Jake, she walks off the curb and almost into an oncoming car. They decide to put their phones away, but then get knocked over by a kid who is texting while riding a skateboard.

John thinks he can multitask. He texts constantly while doing his homework, but finds himself taking twice as long to do his homework and making too many mistakes. He decides to put his phone on vibrate. But the vibration only makes him more curious as to who’s trying to contact him. He finally decides to turn his cell phone off.

A rumor that Jason cheated on a test is flying around at his school. Jason tries to tell everyone he didn’t cheat, but the rumor is already out there. Once a message is sent, you can’t take it back and there are consequences to hitting the send button. When Angela and Denise have a big fight, Angela wants to hurt her in a big way so she snaps an unflattering picture of Denise one day in the locker room when Denise is getting changed. She sends the picture to everyone she knows and lots of kids send it to their friends.

They all learn that “sexting” can have shockingly negative consequences.

Run time: 14 minutes

Every day, young people face problems with friends, family, and schoolmates. This program gives kids five strategies to help them resolve the problems they face in a safe and appropriate way. Children are taught that hitting is not a way to solve a problem and that fights can be avoided when they use their words to talk about the problem. The program demonstrates how blaming someone else for the problem doesn’t resolve the problem, but asking questions can lead to a satisfactory resolution for everyone involved. The program also shows that you can have different ideas to resolve a conflict. Also, when there’s a problem that’s too difficult to solve, you can always ask a grown-up for help.
